Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of real earnings management on firm value in the manufacturing industry listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the period 2015-2017. Real earnings management is measured by looking at the manipulation of real activities in the company's operations that can affect financial statements, while firm value is measured using the Price to Book Value (PBV) ratio. The data used are secondary data obtained from the financial statements of companies listed on the IDX. The analysis method used is simple linear regression. The results of the study indicate that real earnings management has a positive and significant effect on firm value, with a regression coefficient of 0.369. The coefficient of determination (R²) value obtained of 0.156 indicates that real earnings management only explains 15.6% of the variability in firm value. Although its influence is significant, this finding also indicates that other factors not examined in this study affect firm value. This study provides practical implications for corporate managers and investors to consider the long-term impact of real earnings management practices in strategic and investment decisions.
